6.0 LQ9 performance
#1
Hey guys I am new here, but have been around vehicles and dirt track cars all my life! I was just wondering what would you recommend for me to get to get this motor makin some pony's. I plan on a PCM tune and intake and I already have exhaust. I want to get a cam to go with the tune but what would be the best cam for the best performance using the stock converter on a 4L80E? What springs would you recommend, and I am assuming new lifters would come with the cam right? I have done the T/B coolant bypass, and am wondering about porting the T/B, how would I go about doing this and is it very difficult? All other input is welcome!
Thanks a lot,
Mike

welcome to the site!
did you put an LQ9 in your truck over the LQ4?
as for mods, A cam/springs would be a nice upgrade, shouldn't need lifters unless you have alot of miles and would like the piece of mind.
not sure what your stock converter stalls at, I was able to brake stall my 1500HD&2500HD to 2500rpms, also flash stalled at that rpm.

Whoops I meant LQ4 not LQ9 haha. The truck has 148k on the motor so I was thinkin maybe lifters would be nice. The stock converter is 2500 stall and flash stall like yours. What cam would be best? and What other mods can you recomend? I would like to get this truck in the 14's but I know it is going to need a lot of work.

Why not slap a supercharger on that Bad Boy?

Supercharger would be nice, but its to easy haha. I want to build a good N/A motor first, and then once this one is too tired maybe rebuild and S/C or turbo it. What kind of power increases would a cam give me with a tune and headers and intake and yadda yadda? Would it give me that really cool old muscle car lopy (sp?) sound? What kind of driveability would it be?
Thanks,
Mike

The Cam ranges I gave you are typically thought of as mild cams so driveability should typically be from excellent to good.
