Look at the crank at the rear of the block, it should be almost flush with the rear main seal I believe, maybe sticking out 1/8". The 99-00 cranks are longer and stick out noticeably farther...someone posted pics of the two side by side, search this forum and the Internal Engine section and you may find the pics...

walledition I see you're in El Paso. Any good place there to look for a 6.0?

i found 4 6.0`s, 1 2001, 1 2002 and 2 2003 so i`ll take a 2003... let say i wana go turbo, how hard is it to go 11`s with that motor... i just wana start and i still need to study a lot

ok the more i read the more i get confused on what i really want... if i wana make this thing stroker 408, different pistons, would it be better if i only buy the lq4 block and start buying the parts? i dont matter if this will take long i just wana make a good and fast motor

i would just buy the whole motor... tear it down and sell off what you dont want... if you decide you wanna do the 408 you can get a nice little price for the crank and pistons... its really all about what you really want your truck to do in the long run... if the 408 is in your budget, then go for it... if not, then stick with the 6.0.. could even just bore the motor .030 over using the stock crank and make it a 370 with a nice set of forged rods and pistons...
