if you're asking this grade of question you'll never reach the 11s. YES the trans will need to be heavily built. EVERYTHING between an 01up 6.0 and ALL 4.8/5.3 motors will work together.

Your building an evryday race truck
aren't we all,You better start doing your homework and have alot of money.
Alot of us have been doing this awhile.
The open ended questions your asking show that you need to use your search button and look at all the kick *** trucks here and decide what you can afford or want to do.

P.S. The motors are strong, the rear ends are strong, the trans is the weak point. The two things that you need to get these truck into the 12's or beter are knowledge (which this web site can give you) and $$$$ (you're on your own for the money)

alright thanks, thats why i am asking questions, so i dont have to find out the hard way and i dont appreciate you guys saying that if i dont know the answer to these questions then i will never get into the 11's. Thats why i am asking questions, what trans rebuild kit do you recomend, or should i just buy a new one like a b&m

Buy a 4L80E,it will be cheaper in the long run.The 4L60E becomes somewhat problematic at the horsepower levels you'll need to run 11s.You'll also need some 4.56 gears and a strong posi to go with the 4L80E[taller 1st and 2nd gear].I would go with ported LQ9 heads and 11:1 forged pistons, with a 200+shot direct port nitrous system.Tell your cam grinder that you are running a big shot of nitrous and see what cam he suggests. You'll also need to upgrade your fuel system with a inline fuelpump.Good luck and keep us posted.

Pop some pop corn, grab a soda, sit in a comfy chair and do some searches on your questions. You will find TONS and TONS of info if you look hard enough. There are a couple people on here that have done 6.0 swaps, and many more that have posed questions on it.
Oh yeah, and I would grab a 6.0 & 4L80E from a wrecked '01 and newer 2500HD with the 6.0, then have em built.
Good luck and welcome to the site!

the 4L80 is just a pain in the *** conversion unless you're a real hard core racer....just buy a 4L60 like parish had and go from there. that thing would last forever in a truck like mine (rcsb, very light) but he was 4wd extended cab....the 4L60 is junk in stock form but can be made to handle good power.
