I've been told that the CR drop (which is like 10.1->9.5:1)
will cost about 5HP. However, the truck head is a lot
better at mid and higher lifts than the LS1 head on the
intake side. For a stock cam there might not be a big
difference but from the charts I've seen, anything over
.500 lift is basically wasted on a stock LS1 head (though
duration, of course, is not). I think if you're going with
any kind of bigger cam the 6.0s make sense. Maybe even
more so for any poor bastards who're stuck with 91
octane.
Sure, you can do better, but probably not for the price.
Though a I guess a set of ported LS1s could be made to flow
as well. Thing is, by the time LS1s flow as well they may
have hogged off the features that make a decent low end
(swirl bumps etc.).
I have a 6.0 set that'll be going on mine.

With that cam choice I'm pretty sure that you'll not see much difference between the 5.7 and 6.0 heads (assuming 241 and 317 castings) performance wise.....people are making BIG power numbers on stock-headed cam-only LS1's
FWIW.....I'm doing that swap in reverse tomorrow...I'm putting 5.7 heads on a 6.0 to bump compression another .7 and hopefully see better mid/high-lift flow numbers (but I DO have the old-school cast-ion 6.0 heads too)

I have the 6.0 heads and 02+ ZO6 cam , a friend wants to put them on his LS1 TA, I told him it would drop his CR but he still wants to try them. According to the calculation in the LS1/LS6 internal section , it should just take .030 shaving to get cr back to 10.1- Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Does anybody have an idea as to how much HP would be gained.
