Default 6.0 HD Vs. 6.0 SS?

what is the difference between the 6.0 HD motor and the 6.0 SS motor? i have the hd and my buddy has the ss. the ss is so much faster. stock it was faster and even w/ both of us w/ bolt on mods and tunes he is faster even w/ mine having a coup[le more power adders. i know my truck is 300 or 400 lbs more but that shouldnt matter that much. i know some people doing some work to ss's and was wondering if any of there stock motor parts that i can probably get real cheap could add power to my motor.thanks for any info

6.0 in the HD is an LQ4, the 6.0 in the SS is an LQ9

Difference is piston tops, heads, and compression ratio.

Agreed, plus:
300-400 pound difference= .3-.4 difference
30-50 rwhp parasitic drivetrain loss compared to a 4l60e and 10 bolt= .3-.5 difference
Slightly more horsepower(I forget the exact numbers).

You are talking about a .8-1.2 second difference in the 1/4 mile

heads are the same.

Your LQ4 is every bit as good as the LQ9. The only difference is that your pistons are dished. In fact looking back now, I prefer the LQ4 because it leaves a lot more options for ported heads while keeping a streetable compression ratio. Almost all the performance shops gear their heads towards the F-body guys which means chamber sizes 59-64cc. Well on the LQ9 that's 11:1+. Not very good, especially if you tow. I'd recommend you get some PRC stage 2.5 5.3l heads. I would have gone with those in a heartbeat if I had the LQ4, instead I had to go with 317s.

yeah not much difference, but your truck is heavier plus has the 4l80e tranny so that alone kills alot when comparing it to the SS, i would suggest a custom tune and a small cam for that big pig and it should really wake it up, a 212/218 will work well in that heavy truck...
