is it a long block? short block? has all accessories? why does it need rebuilding? give more info. also it depends on what you wanna do with it. do you want to have just a stock 6.0L or are you going to bore it to a 370? 408? give more info.

its a core exchange at the junk yard the guy said its a complete motor he said he drop the pan and it was clean not metal or water he said the guy got another motor cuz that one was knocking I want to build a 408 for my truck

I would take that up in a heartbeat! My buddy and I were just talking last night about how the popularity for that motor in particular is going to drive it into a rediculous price range. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, all of the accessories, fuel injection, wiring, etc. will carry over from your 5.3.

all your parts will transfer over. a little insight. a fresh block is 600 bucks. if you get a whole motor that has bearing issues for 500 isnt a bad price since you get every you need. hell you cna sell the heads for about 150-200. the rods might be worth 75 bucks, crank is worth 125 bucks. so for 150 bucks you got a block after recoping your money back. or use crank and block and buy rods and pistons and have a forged 370

$500 for a complete engine is probably a good deal. I think that most would say that $500 for a just used long block is a good deal. It depends on how bad the damage is. You could definitely get a better idea when you pull the oil pan AND the windage tray. With the pan and tray off, you can get a look at the rods, the bottom of the pistons and the cylinder walls to check for damage. Check to see that no rods are bent or broken, no holes in the pistons, and no gouges in the cylinder walls. If you find any damage like that, walk away.
You wouldn't be able to tell much about the crank without pulling the main caps off, but he probably isn't going to let you see that. So maybe you would have to get another crank. Figure on $100 to $150 for a good used crank.
Knocking could also be caused by a dropped valve. Again, you may get some indication of this by looking at the bottom of the pistons for holes or dents, and if you see any, walk away. If a head is bad, figure on $200 to $300 for a pair of used heads (hard to buy one head).
If you're swapping with a 4.8 or 5.3, you'll be getting a lot of parts on that 6.0 that you don't need. Like manifolds, fuel rail, injectors, covers, oil pan, damper, sensors, pulleys, flex plate and such. all can be sold in the classifieds or on e-bay.
Hope that this helps.
