the ecm just outputs the 5v signal. it only monitors the the signal wire. and it all ground through the chassis to the battery. you just need to steal 5v.

I was gonna suggest this. Tapping 12volts is fine, but I never liked the idea of taking or sharing five volts with sensors. I know plenty of people are doing it, I'd just make a new source for it was me. Cheap insurance.

gm is pretty good about using separate 5v circuits for there sensors. ford on the other hand just splices to 5 or 6 different sensors off of a single circuit.
