5.3L TB swap or mod
#1
Has anyone here checked into using a TB from a vortec 6.0L in your vortec 5.3L ?
I have changed the TB on my 2.5L jeep to the TB from a 4.0L jeep with good results as the 4.0L TB was 10mm larger and the same bolt pattern. All I had to do was change over my original AIS motor to get the correct idle and open up the manifold to match the opening of the larger TB
My 2003 vortec 5.3L TB is 72mm and I see aftermarket TB at 80mm but I cannot find any information on a stock 6.0L TB
I do not want to spend $300-$500 on an aftermarket TB if I can have similar results with a junk yard vortec 6.0L TB for $50.
If the 6.0L TB is has the same venturi opening as my 5.3L TB, would grinding the lip from the back of my stock 5.3L TB make any difference?

I have spent a good part of the day trying to research this and this is what I have found.
4.8/5.3/6.0 share the same bolt pattern but appear to have some differences
The 4.8L is either 70mm or 72mm venturi, may use an air deflector, and may use a throttle stop prevents the blade from opening up more than 85% like the 4.3L TB does.
My 5.3L uses a 72mm venturi, no sign of a deflector, no idea if blade opens 100% as it is drive by wire
The 6.0L may use a 78mm venturi, deflector doubtful, no idea if blade opens 100% on the drive by wire
Can anyone confirm?
If so, then it would appear that they are not all the same even though they are mechanically interchangeable.

Thanks for the responses.
I just want to make sure as my 5.3L I measured at 72mm and not 78mm.
If the 6.0L is truly 78mm it is a 15% increase in size and I can shop the local junk yards for around $50
Beats spending $300+ on an aftermarket 80mm TB

All of the 4.8/5.3/6.0 intake manifolds and throttle bodies are the exact same. There are two throttle bodies for these trucks. Cable, and drive by wire. You will find absolutely no difference between them besides that.
