Default 5.3L tahoe

My parents have a 02'Tahoe and they are thinking aout getting a flow cat-back. My dad is saying that 3inch. pipe is the way to go, would 3 inch pipe be too big? Would it loose any low end? I was thinking more of a 2 1/2 to 2 3/4. The only reason they want a cat back is to increase torque.

Stock '02 Tahoe has a 2.75" pipe that goes into the muffler, then exits with a 3" single exhaust. Best bet is to swap the muffler and keep the stock pipes. I did this on my '01 Tahoe and it worked great. No loss in torque...more like a gain. The part number is in my signature.

^^^^^^What he said^^^^^^

How loud do they want it? Magnaflows are pretty quiet. That's why I got them. I just open the cutouts when I want noise. Corsa and Borla are the only two catback systems I would use if I put a whole system on.

My dad isnt much of performance guru like I'am. They just want it for the better mpg and torque gain.
quote:
Stock '02 Tahoe has a 2.75" pipe that goes into the muffler, then exits with a 3" single exhaust. I agree with them on leaving the stock pipe in there if you want to keep more low end power. I just swapped out mine a few weeks ago for a 3" and I noticed a loss down low.
