5.3L redline
#1
Today I wanted to let my friend hear my truck rev with my new Corsa exhuast so I put it in park and began revving the engine.
I noticed that the tach would easily and quickly spin to 6000 rpms with no problem. The engine sounded just find doing it. Anyway I have noticed that when driving the truck never pulls to 6000 rpms and always shifts well under 6000.
So whats the factory rev limit 5200 or 5600 rpms?
Why does it rev to 6000 in park but wont rev to 6000 when driving?
The HPP3 and Diable Predator allow one the ability to raise the redline right? So what redlines to most people run? I would think 6000 would be no problem since the engine seemed to want to rev that high.
Has anyone compared quarter mile times and/or dyno charts with and without raising the rev limit and at different redline settings?
Any info would be most appreciated.

I might not remember correctly, but I think the factory shift points are 1-2 5600 RPM and 2-3 5200 RPM. It may have been changed on the 03's, I am not sure. But the Hypertech will let you raise the rev limiter up to 6200 RPM. The rev limiter is the fastest the stock computer tune will let your engine go, which is 6000 RPM, even though the shift points are lower than that. Yes raising shift points to 6000 or 6100 RPM will make your truck much faster (up to 3 tenths I have heard). My shift points are at 6000 with rev limiter at 6100, but most people go all the way to 6200 and no one has broke anything yet so go for it. Yes you can shift manually but you take a chance of hitting the rev limiter which is not a good idea especially during a shift.
