I think tires will annoy him too, but I want him to be able to go deeper into the woods, and in PA there is lots of thick muck...wimpy ATs wont do nothing but pack up in the woods....so Im torn, I want some mudders, and was looking at Super Swamper Trxus MTs which are supposed to be quiet for mudders, BFG KM2s get good reviews for highway ride, and the used tires I can possibly get for $400 are basically brand new Firestone MTs which by the looks of the tread on them, they are old school big lugs with no siping, I tihnk they are going to be loud as hell. Its all trying to work on a budget....if doing anything to the engine or exhaust isnt worth it for an old timer putting around, maybe Ill go for the new tires and new fancy rims just for looks so he is old man pimping haha...BFG ATs maybe, they will be more road friendly, wont do well in mud, but snow would be ok and light dirt trails...

Yea it has nothing to do with performance, but I was thinking about nice big Chevy floormats so it looks nice, maybe a bolt in mag light behind the seat, toolbox in bed, maybe CB, a pair of fog lights and a pair of driving lights to brighten the snowy hunting trails, and for sure a vertical gun rack to bolt into the floor near the t-case, and a nice big NRA license plate or something....something my dad could be the cool old NRA deer hunter pimping in style in a decent looking 4x4.

So just put a new stock air filter in with the tune up and skip any of the intakes? forget doing a cat back exhaust? is there any muffler that might be a little more free flowing with a quiet tone that wouldnt be too old man unfriendly? and a tuner for sure, Diablo? Hypertech? Wheatley? Pro Comp?
Go with any reputable tuner for your tune. Do not use a canned tune such as hypertech or anything of that sort, they are crap.

An intake might net you 15hp, on a good day.
Longtubes and a tune are about 25-30...
Gears make it feel a lot better than it is, and can help and or hurt mileage depending on what you get.how you drive it.

Id say a cheap intake, to help a tad, longtubes, Off-road Y, and a tune.
If you can spare the extra $$$ get a dynomax muffler. They flow great and arent very hard on the pocketbook...just my opinion.

I love my dynomax 4"
FOr tires,
Get the Cooper STT Mud Terrains.
THey are basically a Toyo M/T, without the giant price tag. They work AMAZING in everything...imo.

Those or the Mickey Thompson MTZ's, when I had my 35's on my dodge, I got stuck one time, the whole 2 years I used it to play around, and I buried up in an old oilfield drain tank with about 4 1/2' of drilling mud around me.

its getting detailed right now and undercoated. I was going to do tint, but looked up in PA where my folks like and its so strict the tint shop said they cant even do it that light, basically only thing allowed is stock tint.

Yea now got me laughing...he does drive like an old man...especially since he has health, he isnt going to be flooring it...he would enjoy MPG, jeeze he measures that for sure, and I was misled from the mags that the intakes and exhaust help MPG too. Maybe I should go back to the idea of getting new rims and better tires!
Yes new air filter, fuel filter, oil change, all the other fluids for sure.

A tune might not hurt especially if I change tire size which I plan to.

If you want to save gas you should get a K&N cold air intake, that saves gas and gives a little performance.

x2

Cooper Discoverer STT's are a great tire that do very well off road, don't cost a ton, ride super quiet, and last forever. I plan on running them when I get my next set. DO NOT get the Swamper TRXUS, they suck! Seriously, they ride like crap, don't balance at all, and the tread is known to separate from the sidewalls at highway speeds. Definitely not something your Dad would appreciate.

If this were for my Dad, a tune for sure would be on the list, maybe a K&N or Airaid drop-in filter, Longtubes and ORY, and some type of large case muffler (24" Magnaflow would be really quiet) with the exit in the stock location or dumped after the axle. Those basic performance mods will get him some extra oomph to turn the tires when he needs it and the extra MPG he wants when he's just cruising.
