out of curiosity did your stock 5.3L run good before the swap?

i have 126k on mine and it runs perfect except for a small little engine shake when idling.... other than that i get decent milage and excellent power...

ya i need to find someone who has one of those tools that they would like to loan out or somethin for my swap as well.

good luck man

It ran rich, but it couldve been because of the tune. But the main concern with my block is the wear on the cam bearings. I would rather spend the money on a new engine and put the cam in it, then waste the cam in a higher mileage 5.3

Spread out your search. Seems like that $1050 you were quoted was from A & A Pickup and Van salvage yard from Kennedale, right? Expand your search to include higher mileage motors. 100k miles on the 5.3L is nothing! Your cooked cam bearings are from poor maintenance on routine oil changes or high extremely high heat, or both. Also in Kennedale, there's an auto salvage yard with an 82k mile 5.3L out of a 2000 Chevy Tahoe for $605 bucks, the place is called GM Heaven. If you're willing to drive to Graham TX, there's a K&K Motors, Inc claiming that have a 2000 Silverado 5.3L with only 1000 miles on it for $500 bucks. It wont matter if it doesn't have accessories, oil pan, intake...whatever....take that all from your current 5.3L and just get it done.

Use car-part.com as your guide.

Have you checked to see if you can replace the cam bearings without tearing the rest of the engine apart?

I can't afford to not have a vehicle, so it was worth the money to me/my parents to go ahead and buy an engine and get it in ASAP.

and THANK YOU corey, you helped me alot today. I'm going to see how much I can get done on it tomorrow after school/before work. I need to go get some dowel rods to use for the cam swap.

Where can I get them from and what do i need?

BTW, heres the new motor
