Default 5.3 parts compatibility and potential...

I know this has been covered here, but Im new to Gen III and Gen IV blocks...

Are pretty much all LS1 parts interchangeable with a 5.3 block?

How much potential does a 5.3L have? I know all my Camaro buddies endlessly harass anyone who dares try to coaxe power out of a 305 due to the smaller bore, but it's my understanding that the 5.3L truck motors have the same bore as the old 305's do. Is it just a matter of the heads that came stock on these being very, very good? Because from the searches I've done, they msut be since people seem to actually respect the 5.3s (even if the 6.0's are better. )...

Also, how hard is it to tune the computers on these? I know it's a pain in the rear to get it done on my Camaro, which is why it's going to have a carburetor on it in a month, but people seem to like the fuel injection here, combined with the only carb intake I could find costing $700... it really doesnt make much sense to ditch the fuel injection on these.

And are the 2000 5.3 blocks different from the later ones? I read something that seemed to imply that, but Im not sure.

This truck just feels so slow... I dont know if it's becuase it's heavy or stock or what, but for a motor that's supposedly pushing 300 hp I expected a little more. I'm hoping that after I finish my Camaro I'll get it done.

Bigger displacement is always a plus but quite a few of us are doing just fine with the 5.3L There is no relationship to your old 305, these are ls engines and have as much potential and aftermarket as any ls1.
Tuning is not an issue. Kick back and read a while on the board, there's a lot of good info here. Welcome.

My concern is that limits on valve size will always bottle neck a smaller bore motor. But it does seem like these motors have quite a lot of potential with just bolt-ons... I wish I could say as much about my Gen I 350 I'm about to drop in the 'Maro.
