5.3 oil pressure drop after cam swap

probably knicked a cam bearing or 2 installing it.

Why would put an LQ9 cam In an LM7??? There is very little difference in the 2 cams.

5-30 Is to thin for forced induction applications.

If you are using regular Oil, 5k miles is way to long between oil changes especially with forced induction.

I put the lq9 cam in because it was basically free and only took a few hours to install, I know there is not much to gain, I figured with forced induction it would help in the higher end of the rpm band since that is where these cams make there power, I was very careful removing and installing cam I used no force to remove cam at all, slid out very slowly and carefully and reinstalled the same way. Also the supercharger has only been on the last few weeks of which I maybe put 300 miles on it. I'm planning on running 10w30 synthetic when i change it. I will keep this post updated as for oil pressure once i change oil this week.

So the oil pressure swap started after the cam swap, but before the supercharger???

Curious to see if the oil change to 10-30 helps

Yes oil pressure drop occured after cam swap before charger. I replaced the cam retainer plate after first noticing it. then figured its not dropping any lower then 20-25 at hot idle, pulls about 30-35 going down highway. if i rev it up in neutral it will hit 60lb by about 4krpm. So I will try the oil change and see if it does it. Its also been quite a bit warmer out since we did the cam. it was around 50-60 then its now in the 80's pretty regularely.

You've got the intake and exhaust mixed up on the LQ9 cam.

BTW, 17 degrees of increased exhaust duration seems a bit significant to me, I know an LQ4 cam swap into a 99 is a significant gain in performance, especially low end TQ, I've done it

I had this same issue! Come to find out I had to change the valley cover! And it fixed the oil pressure and its back to normal..

It could be the 6.0 cam bearing clearances with your 5.3 cam bearings..It could have wore differently in his truck compared to yours.
