5.3 idle

Default 5.3 idle

so the other day the battery on on my gmc died completely lol after i put the new one on my truck is now has a very low idle like 300 400 it has just died a few times but it doesnt stumble or run rough or anythig it just drops rpms real smooth til it stops running any ideas guys maybe a tps ? my first idea was to just idle it up but when i looked its drive by wire lol thanks for any help Travis

Take it to O'reilly's and get the alternator checked.

Sounds like the PCM just needs an idle relearn...drive the snot out of it a bit and it should relearn the idle.

thats what i was thinking so i put a lil of 40 miles on it last night its running fine no check engine lights just poor idle and if it was the alternator wouldn't it kill the new battery while i was driving it ? thanks guys

Usually when an alternator goes bad it doesn't charge and causes the vehicle to die while driving since it's running directly off of the battery. (there's other ways for alternators to fail, but this is the most common).

I believe that there's actually a procedure for the PCM idle learn, but from my experience, some spirited driving usually works just as well. You may have to idle the truck with the ac on for about 11 minutes if I remember correctly...

Oh yea, it might not be a bad idea to clean the throttle body if you've never done that before...since we're touching on idle issues...

If the alternator is fine,it needs to relearn.
