Default 5.3 heads?

Alright fellas what are good heads for a nice street build on a 5.3? I know stock heads are decent when ported but will they keep up with aftermarket heads? Any advice is appreciated

Are you ever going to have boost in your future? An aftermarket set of heads like Dart/AFR will offer a thicker deck that will be less likely to pass coolant.

If you are staying motor only, a good set of ported and polished 5.3 heads will flow what you need. I fit a 232/234 cam in with my LS6 stage 2.5 heads from Texas speed that are 59cc heads.

Texas speed usually has a good price point on a heads and cam package that will not break the bank and perform very well. Remember its all about the combo, not the most expensive parts you can throw on the motor.

Lightly ported 5.3 heads with 2.00/1.57 valves, don't get a set that has the runners hogged out to 225cc. If money is no object, AFR 205's or TFS 215's. They use the small runners to keep the velocity up and have excellent ports and valves.
