Default 5.3 heads

Im looking for a head cam package for my 5.3 I have a 3k stall my ultimate goal is 400RWHP on a daily driver.

1. Is it possible to get reworked stock heads to flow 300 cfm @ .6
2. Should I have a custom grind done for the cam
3. How can I increase compression with stock heads
4. who does a good job on the port and polish

Im going to run motor only
I appreciate any knowledge or recommendations

It should not be hard to get the 300 cfm at .600 lift as most of the aftermarket head folks start with the 5.3/4.8 truck heads and machine from there.
You would need to get the heads shaved to increase the compression and adjust your pushrod size accordingly. There are a few companies offering the 7.3" or smaller pushers now ( stock is 7.4" I believe ).
Check out the article in Car Craft magazine November 2004 for an awesome 5.3 buildup with LPE heads, cam, and Comp valvetrain stuff. It is a perfect template for what you are looking to do.
I have a copy if you don't wanna wait for a back issue. Good luck, let us know what and how things do!

-I wouldn't bet you could flow 300 cfm @ .600 lift w/ a stub pipe and intake manifold in place. Or if you could, it would be at the sacrifice of velocity with some huge ports.

-Definetly have a custom ground camshaft fit for your setup.

-You can mill the head deck for higher compression. Every point I hear, is 3-4 percent in power.

I would like to see it done. Call Allan Futral and ask him. I think he has the most experience with going into the truck motors. Most everyone else tailors everything for the 5.7 and bigger engines.
