5.3 headers/exhaust questions

Greasemykey, I actually had no trouble passing at a star certified station in Oceanside, although the smog tech could tell I had a cam (older guy, he was cool with it). My truck was tuned so all it actually burned cleaner then it did stock.

I don't know where you got your info from 69camaro but in California visual is a big MUST to pass, if the cats aren't in the stock location they will fail you. And many shops are now wary of willie nillie just passing anyone because CARB is cracking down and revoking smog tech's licenses for illegally passing people. And IMO the shorties aren't worth the price. Not sayin thorleys are the end all be all, but for me they're the best option.
That's pretty ridiculous if somebody can mod there truck and get cleaner emissions, but it won't pass a visual. I had jba shorties before my longtubes, nothing like the longtubes, but they did wake the truck up some over 3K rpm and my gas millage went up 1-2 on the highway.
Op if you can find a used set I say go ahead and get them, but be careful of breaking bolts especially that red headed step child cylinder #8

And THAT is exactly why I'm leaving California... There are ways to cheat the system but you gotta be smart about it. There are also some sparsely populated areas that don't smog so if you know somebody that lives up there you can register your vehicle there.

Eh plans changed, figured I'd venture away from home for a while longer haha. I'm familliar with the west so I'm selling my camaro and moving to Utah to pursue a career in diesel mechanics. I'll be up there at the end of April though.
