So you are looking at getting a new or reman engine just to pop in a cam and run it? Id get a low mileage take out from a wrecking yard for $250-$1000 and run the **** out of it, and buy a turbo kit with what you save...

Seems like a complete waste of money to spend $2,300 or even $3,200+ on a factory stock long block.
You can buy a used engine and get the full machine work done for way way less than that cost of a new engine.

Would be no downtime if you used your motor in the truck now but it's your wallet not mine.
Pick your posion then, any stock 5.3 block is fine. Either of those two engines you posted will accept a camshaft upgrade just like any other 5.3 out there.

What do you mean will it fit?
A 5.3 LM7 is a 5.3 LM7, what is going to be any different about it if you get the right year.
1999 enignes are different by a little bit because of the longer crank I believe.
And I just re-read the details about the 01+ engine, they have a core charge of $2,500!!!!!. After you factor that in the $200 in shipping back to them for your core you are talking $6,200 for just an engine before you get your core charge back.
$3,660 after the core charge, you could buy like 3 used engines and get a machine shop to make them brand new again for the same price. Holy man is that like getting raped with no lube.
