Default 5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

How much slower would a 4WD be in a quarter mile race vs an identical truck with 2WD?

Anyone know how much more a 4WD truck weighs compare to a 2WD?

Also what gears do you think would be better to get 3.73 or should I go with 4.10's. How much MPG would I lose going to a 4.10 gear from 3.73's?

I'll probably be running 33inch tires like my '01 has.

Thanks for the help..

With 33" tires no question 4.10s, I ran 4.10's with 28" tires, revs were a tad high on the highway when crusing 75+ though.

I have 31's with a limited slip 3.73 and I wish I had a 4.10 gears. Slower in 4WD? A lot of guys with some hp and weight, myself included, can't hook-up at all in 2W and depend on 4WD.

Not sure where you live or what you do with your truck but I'd go with 4.10s. It looks like I'm going to swap my 3.42s out for 4.10s very soon. I like the 3.42s on the highway here in florida where I constantly hit 80 to 90 mph. what I don't like is there are no downshifts past 70 mph and the motor just lugs. Once I go with 285/70R17s I'll do the 4.10s with a nelson or westers tune. As for 1/4 mile times, I doubt it makes much difference, maybe .2-.4 sec.

So you race your truck in 4WD?

I was thinking even if I get a truck with 4WD I would only race it in 2WD.

I like having 4WD but I thought I may just get a 2WD because it would be lighter curb weight and make the truck much faster then a 4WD version.....

No doubt, a 2wd is a lot lighter and can be set-up to be faster, (If you can lift the front wheels in 2wd, what good is 4wd and then there is the parasitic loss once you have traction.) :however, if you like a 4wd for off-track, then you work with what you have and using the 4wd is faster.
