not even an LS7 would gain that number with that cam

Ahhh, thanks for the input guys! Just curious... how would my muffler keep me from making HP? And I really need to dyno my truck then... because I would have never thought I was making anything less than 350whp... lol. But I'm definitely leaning towards the TSP cam... I'm not so sure about that ASA cam... sounds a little farfetched...

like i said look it up all the research ive done on it says 140 hp, also a mechanic which is a friend of mile put that cam in his truck and it change his quarter mile time from about 13.8 to about 12.4 so it does help ive seen it work, like i said put that cam in a 5.3 with a 2000 stall converter and you should be in good shape with power and speed, it does make you get worse gas milage tho by quite a bit i get about 17 in the city and if i put that cam in then i will start getting about 14-15 in the city so it will cost you some money in the long run but you can blow the wheels off alot of cars on the road

ASA Cam specs
226/236 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.525" / 0.525" int/exh lift
110 LSA

Not exactly what I would put into a truck. A huge split in duration and really low lift. No way in hell will you gain 140 hp with just a cam swap.

Wow, this thread is full of win.

The GM ASA Cam is too big for a 5.3 Period, 2000 stall? So you have basically a stock stall?

To the original poster, if you are looking for a cam for your 5.3 that will allow you to run the stock stall speed then you are going to want to keep the cam mild. I would suggest not going any larger then a comp 212/218 if you are going to keep the stock stall speed. As others have already mentioned, Long tube headers and some better mufflers will help it out as well. Just keep in mind that you will need a good tune to go along with the above mods.

I’m not suggesting it as a replacement for a converter, as if you go too large on the cam you will need or at least benefit a looser converter, but while you didn’t mention what gear ratio you’re currently rockin, you can get away with a little less converter if you have a little deeper gear in the rear axle.
