5.3 build or LQ9
I am thinking of upgrading the engine in my avalanche. I am looking for some advice on a few things.
I have a 5.3 sitting in my garage right now that I have been thinking of building up. I was thinking of doing 4.8 pistons, 243/799 heads, and i was looking at a mid level cam from eps. I'm wondering what kind of power this would put down, or if it would be better to sell this 5.3 and find an lq9 and do a cam.
I will obviously upgrade the transmission. I'm not looking for any crazy power, I just want more then i have now. It's my daily driver that i sometimes tow car trailer, jetskis, etc. Any advise is great.
Thanks!

I won't be racing, just pulling trailers on and off and driving it everyday. I love a choppy idle but don't wanna sacrifice torque too much.

I was debating the same thing. After figuring out how much it would cost to upgrade the 5.3 and still not have the torgue of the LQ9 I will be doing a LQ9 swap in the future. Your avalanche is pretty heavy so you need the torque.

Hello,
I'm new to this site and new to blogs/chatrooms whatever they are these days, call me old, whatever.... I am.
maybe one of you can point me in the right, .... room or what have ya,
My project is a 72' K5 on a shortened GMC K3500 chassis with 6.5L turbo diesel and a 4L80 trans. (hence the "72IFSK5" username/vanity plate)
I just bought an 03' 6.0L LQ4 and 4L80E complete take out package.
besides wiring, exhaust and the fuel system, what other parts, like motor mounts, linkages etc.. will I need to get this all together in that chassis?
