Well got some good news, fellas. I've found a rebuild kit for the 5.3 which allows overbores of .020", .030", and .040". Man I'm so stoked! BTW the name of the out fit is RPM machine, haven't found out where they are yet. Say- does anyone have a P/N# for an LS6 oil pump, I hear they're the best and LS6 valve springs; I understand that there are orange green and yellow LS6 springs- which ones whould I want and do any of them require any machining...............
Thanks- I always learn a truckload when I stop in here.........

Check with SDPC------->

You will want the yellow LS6 valve spring, about 60 bucks.

There's enough meat to rebuild the blocks with 5.7 overbore pistons too. For a standard bore 346, it's 99mm bore. Then you can overbore from there for future rebuilds with .010, .020, .030 5.7 piston rebuild kits.

What you have to weigh as options are: Does the 5.3 to 5.7 machine work and hardware cost more than a used LS1 5.7 block/hardware, and remember to include machine work for both ways since a used LS1 from the classifieds will most likely need a rebuild too.

Or why not throw in a stoker crank for a 383?

I vote 6.0 or a built 5.7 I would love to have a LS1 block because then you would have the less weight but with my wheels it doesn't really matter.

This is great- if there's enough meat in there to overbore still from 5.7(99mm)- I'm going 5.7 when the time comes, 'cause hey- who knows if the rest of the truck will still be around by the time I'd rebuild again.........

Something I did find on car-part dot com were several 6.0L rebuildable core shortblocks for $300... They are getting cheaper by the minute it seems for the iron blocks, but the cheapest 5.7 was $900 and it was a damaged short block. Dang salvage yards still think those LS1's are made of gold or something.
