Default 4L65 vs 4L80 ???

I wanted to see if anyone knew if a 4L80 would bolt right into the place of a 4L65 in an SS silverado ? Are the thet same length. I know the 80 is bigger but not sure where ?? Or would it be cheaper just to build a 65 to handle more power ?? Any help or direction would be appreciated

I think this would require basically the same work for parish8's 4l80E swap. He put the 4L80 in a 4WD RCSB that originally had a 4L60E. As I recall, it required moving the trans crossmember, getting an adapter for the input shaft to the tq converter, and having driveshaft made shorter than stock. Not sure if any adapters were needed for the t-case. Search for the 4L80 swap thread for more specifics...

Here's parish's page:

I think that the AWD transfer case is different somehow, but I'm not sure. Maybe he can help you out.

He used the transfer case made for the 4L80. The AWD transfer case has a different size input shaft and spline count. Moving the crossmember and adjusting the driveshaft lengths wouldn't be that hard, but the AWD transfer case is the killer.

yep, what big tex said. I still think there is a good chance that if you took the input hub out oh my HDtcase it might go right into an awd case or autotrack case. Just change the one part and keep your case?

from the outside all the tcase look the same. they are all the same basic casting. they have to share some internal parts too. i have been meaning to try it.

i need a vin number from a light duty 2500 with a autotrack.

PM Yelo... or perhaps Moregrip. I think More's 1500HD has the 4L80E/Autotrac.
