400 small block lifter noise

Default 400 small block lifter noise

I just picked up a 76 K5 blazer with a 400 small block. Its been sitting for a bit but does run. Got it to start up by putting gas in the carb. It sounds like the lifters are tapping. Could this be because the oil pump hasnt had time to pump up the lifters? What can I do to help the tap?

How long did it run for? How long did it sit for?

it sat for probably 6 months maybe a little more. Only ran for maybe 5-10 seconds, only ran until what was in the carb was gone a couple of times

If they are a high performance valvetrain they will make noise in the gen 1 sbc. I had a huge cam in a 355 and it made a racket all the time. If they are a flat tappet hydraulic lifter and its sat for a while they may need a lil bit to pump up too. plus roller rockers make more noise too. Just throwing some ideas at ya, good luck. you have any pics of this thing?

id say the lifters didnt have enough time to pump up yet

Yea, 5-10 seconds isn't enough, especially on an engine that has sat for 6 months.

how long could it take to pump the lifters up?

I've seen lazy lifters on a sitting engine take upwards of 10-15 minutes to let loose. Just drive the damn thing and don't worry about it. It'll shutup

yeah atleast 5 minutes to get warmed up and pumpin........ are they roller or flat tappet lifters?????
