Default 4.8L and performance heads

Howdy,

I know alot of companies make stuff for the 5.3 and 6.0, and i was wondering, could i run a 6.0L head with shaft mount RR's and see any gains or would i be shooting myself in the foot? Im looking for more performance besides my nitrous kit, and i know unless i go forged internals (lil too prcey atm since im 17), i need actual N/A power. I know guys run the camshaft route, and i plan on adding a cam from comp cams (i believe) nitrous cams selection this winter, but heads i can swap in a couple of days if nothing breaks along the way and was wondering.

Thanks,
Dave

i would port and polish your exsiting heads.. find a good head work shop to do the job. You could go with some 5.3's and have them ported and polished as well... but ive been told that the 6.0 heads have too much compression for our little 4.8's

the 6.0 heads will drop the compression to much and bog your power down the 4.8 heads and 5.3 heads are the same so you can get you them port and polished maybe some good valve i personally install some ls1 heads on mine it lowered my compression some but i went with smaller head gaskets so it didn't drop much but i'm going FI on mine though. but even still the top end came alive alittle more with the heads and tune of course. just my $.02

While you get them ported get them shaved a bit to bump the CR up a little.

I think the 5.3 and 4.8 heads are the same, the 6.0 has bigger combustion chambers, so you would loose compression, and power. Get some used heads, and have them ported/polished, then you will have almost no down time. Then sell yours for what you paid for the new ones. Also have them milled a few 1/1000ths to get a little extra compression. I think for every 1/10 point of compression you gain about 10 hp. Someone else may correct me on that though. Good luck. I wish I would have had such a solid foundation to start with when I was 17, but at least my kids will. Just dont tell the wife.

anyone have an opinion if i can run shaft mount rockers under the stock valve covers? I know they are damn near proven to gain more hp over traditional RR's but i wanted to see if anyone is actually running them on here or what?

Thanks,
Dave
