Default 4.8L Oil Capacity

Is the owner's manual for my '99 Silverado right?

It say's...

4.8L (5.7L) 6 Quarts

I'm getting ready to do the first oil change on my truck since buying it, and that just seems like a lot of oil for a 4.8L engine. If that is correct, then it takes more oil than the 5.7L in my 'bird (5 1/2 Quarts).

I was going to pour in 5 quarts and then check the level, but I thought I'd ask here first. Thanks in advance for any replies...

My 5.3 takes about 6 1/3 with a PF-59 filter on it.

Hayes book says 6, but I usually came up with around 6.5 in my 4.8.

It's 6 but check some "official" sources if it'll ease your mind. That's what I put in mine and it hits the full mark.

I changed the oil in the truck today. It looks like I'm going to be at the 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 quart range. That was with the direct replacement Fram PH3675 filter. I'll check the levels again tomorrow before I add any oil. I want to make sure I wasn't just seeing things...
