ive found a 4.8 shortblock outta a 2000 GMC truck, guy pulled it out to put a 6.0 in its place. i was wondering what i could do motor wise to get me into the 250-275rwhp range, since it has no heads, i was just gonna pick up some 853s, and stock LS1 intake, and a decent cam.

honestly id like to go turbo, like a masterpower t70 with a .68 hotside, but i dont know what i would have to do as far as a tune, i know id have to up the fuel system, but no idea where to otherwise. ive built a blowthrough carb mustang but im new to fuel injection.

what could i do as far as the wiring harness?...id thought of using the MSD 6ls box for the sensors and such, and megasquirt for the fuel injection .its gonna be going into a 1980 malibu with a built/stalled th350....id like to keep the convertor fairly tight as this will be a "daily driver"

id appreciate any opinions/suggestions good or bad....

headers, tune, cam you would be at 275whp or more.

 

any suggestions on cam?....of course id like to have a huge cam with a major lope, but it wont be very driveable, i would like to have one that sounds good and makes good power

well plans have changed, i got a different car i can drive daily(92 accord ) so this car isnt gonna be a daily any longer, so im gonna do a cam, stock heads, s400 turbo, and a small shot of nitrous to get it to spool, only reason for the big turbo now, is the plan for a l92 headed 6.0 down the road....i plan on going into the 10s with the 4.8 though...

there is a guy with a stock 5.3 with a cam, t76 w/ 12lbs in a notchback mustang, went 11.0@ 134....i think the cammed 4.8 with a nitrous shot should get me into the 10s....

 

I know that a shot of nitrous on a cammed 4.8 will NOT get you into the 10's. The fastest pass ever by a 4.8 was 11.8 and that was run by a fully forged 4.8 with a 67mm turbo at 17lbs of boost.

 

a fox body is going to be lighter than the malibu..how big of a shot you going to hit it with??..a forged 4.8 with heads, 230+ dur cam, 4000+ stall and 250+ shot and you might hit a 10
