30 thou would roughly get your 4.8 back to stock as the chambers on 243's are 64 to 65 cc and 862's are around 61. Theoretically if you gain the old 1 cc per 6 thou you only need around 24 thou shaved..... 4th gen 4.8's run 243 and 799 heads stock and are something like 8.8:1 lol.

You have to be mill approx .006 to remove 1 cc from the combustion chamber on these heads.

243's are roughly 65 CC

862's are about 61 cc

You might as well as go a full .030 and get the extra 1 cc to help bump compression and take advantage of the cam.

If your dead set on staying all motor, I'd point you towards a set of Advance Induction ported 243's and a TBSS/NNBS intake swap. At that point you'd probably have one of fastest all motor 4.8 trucks around.

To be honest, considering your 60 foot time, your truck is putting some good times down. Based on your trap speed and lack of a good 60 foot time, I'd say your truck is capable of 8.5 or maybe even faster with a better short time. Perhaps the money would be better spent on a set of drag radials and maybe some traction bars rather than more motor work first?

Thanks for the info on the heads! I haven't really thought much about intakes cause every time I've searched they say you'll lose low end

And the only reason I don't try to save up for forced induction is cause I really don't want to replace another transmission. Had mine rebuilt last year and he said it would be strong enough to hold more power, just not sure how much more lol

You may lose some down low with the smaller cube motor, but nothing substantial enough the 3600 stall converter you have won't take care of.

are the newer style intakes a fairly easy swap or will a lot have to be changed?

Not a terrible swap on an 04. There are a few threads out there about it. Easiest thing would be to get a complete intake assembly off a donor. Intake manifold, rails, injectors, Evap components, etc. You could run an oem 08+ 87/90mm throttle body and use an X-link adaptor to convert your TB wiring to the new electronic TB. Depending on injectors used, you may need harness adaptors. Newer rail will hook right up. One Evap line will need to be modified, but you should just be able to cut it and clamp some soft line from the new purge solenoid to your oem Evap line. Plenty have done the conversion, it's not bad at all. The only disadvantage is the cost of the x-link. Would probably run you nearly as much as the complete intake assembly. But still less than half the price of an aftermarket manifold.

If you're in need of an intake, I've got a couple, just PM me.

Gbrown1320 I'll definitely keep that in mind! I was just reading some threads on the FAST LXSRT intake and would love to have one but $1000 just ain't in the budget right now lol

Of course the FAST is a badass intake, but I'd take the $1000 that it cost and spend it on AI's porting service for either your heads or a set of 243s. You'd have $500 max tied up in a TBSS intake swap and probably would be giving up less than 10hp compared to the FAST. In my opinion, you'd need more displacement to take advantage of the FAST.
