I have a 2000 silverado 4.8, and Im new to the car and truck performance scene, I want to make it quick, but cant afford anything big, Im thinking about a new exhaust system, but dont know what to get, I think it has a flowmaster on it now, not even 100% on that, anyone have advice?

What is your goal with the truck, and what is important to you?? Do you want to be able to talk to the passenger while you are driving or do you want to make the guy driving the Harley crash because of how loud your truck is? Gas mileage important?
If it's got good flowing exhaust I'd go with a tune, or a cold air intake my-self. Cold air is cheaper, but the tune will help out more. If you do get a tune. I wouldn't use a handheld tuner. like hypertec or anything, get a nelson or pcm4less.

I think you need to crawl under it and look at the mufflers, there sould be a name or something, also look at the pipe size and see if it changes after the converters.
If you are happy with the exhaust sound and perfomance, I'd move on to a tune or something else.

yeah I guess Ill check out the exhaust, but I still think Id like a new one, like a real dual exhaust, right now its just like the dual exhaust where it splits at the end, I looked at the cold air intakes, they seemed priced the same as other performance intakes idk what that means, and for the tune, what do you mean by non hand held, I thought thats all you could buy, never heard of ones you named ,thnx for the replies btw

You can send your PCM off and get a custom tune. This is what the Nelson tune and PCM4less do. Their are a few other ones also. Check the advertisment links on the right of the screen. I know Nelson performance has one and their are a few other tuners also. I agree to stay away from the handheld tuners.

ECM - Engine Control Module
PCM - Powertrain Control Module
It controls almost everything the engine does and how it does it. Speed limiter, fuel curve, idle speed, ect.
