Default 4.8 to LQ9

So I picked up an 02 LQ9 which will be replacing the 4.8. The 4.8 is just gutless, it just has no torque to move the vehicle. Will the stock LQ9 be able to move nicely on the highway without downshifting up hills and such? Or should I consider some mods while the engine is out? It will have a 93 Wheatley tune. Thanks.

Yeah, I was looking at cams, especially the Z06 cam since you can get it so cheap with springs and pushrods usually. The thing is, I rarely go over 3000rpms. I mainly just want a lot of torque and throttle response (of which the 4.8 has none; I feel like I push the pedal in an inch and nothing happens).

A 212/218 Cam would be a nice choice... With set of LS6 springs

go with a high lift low duration cam with a lower lsa, also mill the heads or get 243 heads to boost compression. the 4.8 wasn't made for tq, I don't know why gm put the thing in trucks, the 6.0 should have plenty. also do stuff like headers and CAI, but these will help your entire powerband.
