I have seen a few quick 4.8s. I believe that a 99 scsb 5.3 w/ 270hp would beat a '00 scsb 4.8 w/ 270hp. Correct me if I'm wrong!

those ratings must be at the flywheel...cause several of us all bought RST's and took em straight to the dyno...not ONE made over 230 rear wheel hp....and they come with JBA shorties & a K&N cold air kit...mine now makes 332rwhp and i'll run ANYONE with a N/A 4.8 or 5.3...even run most with a bolt in 6.0...no adders tho...my 4.8 is an angry little motor

Just bought my truck a month ago. It has the 4.8 and I think it has plenty of power. Imagine if it had early 80's computer controlled technology. (carbed & stock), it would probably suck.

I have a 4.8 and love it, however if I could do it all over again I would have gone for a 5.3 I might do a 6.0 swap or bore this one out one day. More cubes will always responde better mod for mod and every little bit counts.

I would say if your not doing alot of mods go with a 5.3. If your planning on doing a swap. go with a 4.8, or hell save yourself some money and just get a V6.

Ok heres the thing. If you want to go really fast then get a 6.0 or bigger. If you want to get fast with putting some work into the truck get a 5.3 or a 4.8. No matter if you go with the 5.3 or the 4.8 you are going to have to put some real mods into them to get them to run fast numbers.
But with that said, we all still know that the 4.8 is still the best motor out there. Damb I sound like a "hemi" guy

i did some research on our motors, it does not matter what motor you order a replacement stock cam for, all 3 were under the same number to order.
4.8 5.3 and the 6.0 all run the same cam. this was from 99 - 04 when i checked, so the 6.0 cam your friend put in his 4.8, was the same cam he took out.
