4.3L exhaust options....
#1
Hi yall! I'm new here to this forum. I have an '03 silverado SWB reg cab with the 4.3L engine.
This is a SSV (Special Service Vehicle), with a Liberty lightbar, hideaway strobe kit, front and rear LEDs, Siren/PA, etc. etc. Basicly the works.

I have owned the truck since new, and am finally ready to start putting on some goodies to boost up the performance a little.
Currently I have ordered a Gibson dual side swept exhaust for my other truck, but since it just got stolen this past thursday, I will probably put it on the '03. I have heard a lot of V6 trucks that the owners just cut the exhaust off or put a glass pack or a "turbo" muffler shop muffler on, and they just make the truck sound terrible. I want as much deep tone as possible but without the rice burner wiz sound under hard acceleration.
I researched several different brands of exhaust, and settled on the Gibson, because of the low interior resonance and the baffled chambers to scavange the exhaust effectivly.d
Anyway, my question for you guys is: Would a set of headers help? What is the most effective and inexpensive air intake for this truck?
Thanks for your help!

I had a FM 40 series w/ a turndown on my 4.3 ZR2...sounded really good, especially at idle. I had a single Gibson cat-back on the previous '99 reg. S-10 w/ the 4.3 and it was barely louder than stock. I also had Dynomax, Borla, and dual straightpipes on the ZR2. I liked the FM for the sound, but the Borla cat-back was the best all-around, IMO...good deep sound, nice power increase, and 304SS. 4.3s, no matter what exhaust, always get a little "buzzy" in the upper RPMs.

Here is an article about a Zr2 that some guys put JBA headers on. I actually just bought a set of them today. They should be here middle of next week. I am going to do true duals with it (I have a '01 Zr2 Blazer), and when I get everything installed I'll let you know how it worked out.
