Yes you can advance your cam with the stock timing chain. Each tooth you advance the cam on the crank is 4*. Each tooth you advance the cam its self is 1/4* i believe. So degreeing a cam is pretty easy overall.

Simular to the subject, if you have a cam that is too big you can advance it and lower the powerband. If the cam is too small you can retard it to gain some power up high. I am thinking about retarding the cam in my Blazer to get some topend out of it.

clockwise as you face the engine is advance.
