Is it possible? If so, what would be needed? I researched and found that 3.905 bore/4.00 stroke will make it work..would like to know more info about it, its my first motor build so any help will be appreciated.

 

I built one a few months ago. Just get a ls1 383 rotating assembly, boring the block that much can get costly just depending on the machine shop you use. Everyone will say get the block sonic tested, I never have and out of the 5 5.3 blocks I've bored out I've never had one over heat.

 

Is that the correct bore??

You'll bore your block based on what the piston manufacturer recommend, but yes 3.905x4.000 will give you a 383ish motor

 

You could be dangerous and a 5.3 will go to 392-393 ci.

By dangerous I mean a 4.100 crank and 3.905 bore. You'll catch **** and 99% of people you talk to will tell you it won't work but whatever. Depends on what your using it for.

 

A 4.1 crank and a 3.908 bore has been done that I know of... like Blown said, it's pushing it and all your **** has to be right but I personally think you could really push it and get 400ci from a 4.8/5.3 block...

I highly recommend this mod. I'm very happy with the manners of my setup, and it's pretty good on fuel on the highway. It has gobs of torque and pulls forever. I'm almost done tuning (I've enlisted the help of Wheatley) and was going to take it to the track to get some numbers and some video last night but got rained out. No problems with this engine in 1800 miles whatsoever. In fact, it just keeps getting better.

Everyone I take for a ride is simply blown away, except for the women who think I'm just crazy. It easily smokes the tires well into third gear. 4wd launches feel violent. I handily killed two Cummins smoke belchers last weekend, easily walk on the new 5.0's and have embarassed many a ricer. In fact, I haven't been beat yet in roll-ons or digs.

Bored to 3.905, the wall thickness is still better than an LT1 bored to a mere 355ci. There's been no overheating, piston slap or anything out of the ordinary with mine. It seems like a good trustworthy engine that can take a ton of abuse. It loves to rev and seems to like the big camshaft. I'm not sure how it would perform without the blower though. Of course, I'd recommend one of those too. A 2300 would be perfect.
