Default 350 to a 383

hey guys. i have a 1995 gmc sierra Z71 with the 350 in it and i would like to get a kit (or the parts) to make it a 383. i would also like to run maybe a 100-150 shot of nitrous with it. i was wondering who makes a good, affordable kit.

anything helps, thanks a lot.

Eagle, Manley, and many others make stroker kits for the GenII small block. You might consider a bigger kit that includes newer Vortec heads or the kits that convert to an LT4 configuration too.
I found lots of hits on eBay, other good references are car/performance mags like Chevy Hi Performance and GM Hi Performance.
Have fun, post up when you take the plunge!

He will need a Gen I SBC stroker kit...he doesn't have an Gen II...LT1 engine in his truck unless he swapped it in there. I have a 1990 C1500 with a 383...I've done the swap so any question....feel free to ask.

I think Gen I SBC are two piece rear main seal, and Gen II SBC are 1 piece rear main, so the LT4 engines are classified under the Gen II because of the 1 piece rear main.

As for engine a 383 with a good cam will do wonders, if money was not an issue get a 502 or 572 and go to town.

I have a Gen I one piece rear main so...its not the one piece design. Its the reverse coolant that makes the LT1 a Gen II I do believe.

He is right about the cam but a TBI engine has its limits on cams....most cam you can put in a TBI engine is 210/214 and that's with a lot of tuning and bigger injectors.

yeah guys i have the gen 1 as far as i know.

yenko- few questions. what kind of stuff did you use for your stroker? how much did you pay? and are you happy with it? (input from others is always good). and could it support nitrous?

cbrich- if money wasnt an issue id def have a 572, ha. but unfortunentally it is.... for now. so until 383 stroker is the plan.

and does anyone have an idea on how much a decent shift kit would cost? i have an auto unfortunentally

I used Speed Pro hypereutheic pistons, "X" marked GM rods(supposed to be the best and strongest), and a Eagle crank. I paid about $2G for the short block and my AFR heads, cam, etc was extra. Could it support nitrous....yes. A 100 shot would be do able...150 would be the max. If you want more and you will spray every weekend then go forged pistons and a forged crank.

Am I happy with it:Oh yea.....I am pushing about 425hp and its very fun to drive. The only thing I don't like is the piston slap I have and I think the machinist made my bore just a little too big for the pistons. However, it is very torquey and pulls extremely well. I hope to run 12's NA on it. However, my next engine will have forged pistons or a snug fit hyper. piston with a roller cam. Right now I have a flat tappet piece. Reason for the roller cam is just makes more hp.

Hope this helps.
