Default 2wd --> AWD swap?

Just curious if this is at all possible? I have a 2000 GMC Extended cab with a 5.3/4l60...and was wonding if you could swap in a 4l80/transfer case setup, and swap front suspensions? Reason I ask is....I tuned a 4wd pickup the other day, 408, D1 supercharger, AFR heads, stall....and from a stop in 4wd, MY GOD..that thing was silly. Just brain storming here...

So I take it you mean 2wd -> 4wd? AWD uses a 4l65e and no one but Kurt at W2W has successfully done an 80e conversion and kept the AWD tcase.

whatever would work and be strong? From what I understand, the SS has a full time AWD, while this pickup I tuned the other day was a 4X4, with selectable 4wd. Is either one swapable? Tell me yes

The thing I would be worried about: Are the frames the same so that you can swap front suspensions?

I don't know about the Silverados, but with the S10 platform, the frames are completely different. Swapping from 2wd to 4wd / awd requires changing frames. Not exactly a "simple" swap. Maybe not that hard, but a lot of work.

The transfer case issue can be resolved, does depend upon what amount of power you're going to be pushing (which tranny) as to how hard it'll be.

The easy way would be to go 4x4. Then you also have the option of 4l80e and HD transfer case.

from the factory the frames are completly different for the AWD / 4WD vs 2WD. I don't think it's possible to do without a new frame.

The frame in my truck is identical to a frame in the SSS.

This is something I have been wondering about for a while.. say theoretically that the frames are the same... what would need to be done???

It is possible, But with enough $$$ ANYthing is possible. I think you would be better off getting a 4x4 or ss to start with. You would have to change out everything up front. ALL the suspension and who knows what else.
I have a rc 4x4 though and just starting so it was good to hear they can run.
May need to get up with you for a tune some day.

torsion bars 4wd steering components differential differential cradle probably new a-arms new spindles driveshaft half-shafts maybe need new brakes up front buttons for the dash relays and maybe some wiring if they dont just plug in I would just get a 4x4 to begin with it would be way too much work IMO.
