Default 234 228 cam

Has anybody installed the SLP 234 228 cam in a 5.3 liter? think it would be to wild? going to go in with stage 2 heads, ls6 crank, forged pistons, maybe eventually a supercharger. any thoughts?

ok, that cam would be pretty big for a 5.3, and wouldn't be the best cam for a supercharged setup, and WHY THE **** WOULD YOU PUT IN AN LS6 CRANK??? there is NO difference what-so-ever between it and your stock 5.3 crank.

Hey Matt, ease up a little why don't you.

And YES there is a difference in the cranks, but they have the same stroke, so no cubic inches are gained.

I would put the fucken ls6 crank in because as of now the engine on my engine stand is a 4.8 which is the same block as the 5.3, which has the same stroke as the ls1. So you see why i would put in an ls6 crank. It is a higher quality and lighter than a stock 5.3 crank also.

Secondly what should kind of cam should I go for if I am to supercharge it?

you'll have to change the connecting rods to go with that crank then....typically people go with cams with a split in'em for nitrous or boost applications, something like 220/224, that kind of split. ValveGod told me he reccomends a 4 degree split for 100 shot or n2o and 4 more for 200-300 shot. so for a 100-150ish 220/224 and for a 200-300 like a 220/228 or 222/230

putting an LS6 crank in a 4.8 WOULD be stroking the motor. but it would just be making it a 5.3 instead of a 4.8.

And you wonder why people give you so much ****. Why don't you quit trying to be Captain Know-It-All, and lay off the replies like that! FYI, the conecting rod journals are drilled through on the LS6/LS1 cranks.

the crank swap is simple it would be stroking it out, the 5.3 just uses shorter connecting rods and a smaller piston height so you gain quite a bit out if a simple mod. If your doing a bottom end its a must do for 4.8's and its dirt cheap, check around with some vette tuners and you can pick one up for <$200.
