With the Comp 220/224 you will be fine with stock length rods and the shaved heads. That CompCam has a smaller base circle than a stock came does. So the shaved heads would need a shorter rod. But you will have a smaller base circle cam. So the stock rods should make up for the small base and shaved heads. Somebody correct me if im wrong. Now on the ZO6 cam I think you might need to run a tad shorter rods with the shaved heads.

no dont want a zo6 cam i am already bigger than that with my 212/218 cam that i already have if i went with like thunders 224/224 would i HAVE to have stronger rods due to the lift of smaller ones or is anybody running stock rods with a zo6 spring on it because i see they recommend a 918 spring with it as well again thanks for the feedback

Might as well get some hardened rods. LS6 springs arent gonna work with the 224. Gotta get some 918's or something.

Why not just get the kit from thunder? Thats what I did. $600 for the cam, harden pushrods, and 918 springs.

I think those springs would be fine but it is a risk its always safer to put the heavier ones in, Im not shore what lift they are rated to.

the lifters have at least 100 thousands play in them with being hydraulic. Im running stock size pushrods with heads shaved .050 and a cam with .566 lift when I went to 7.35 rods had alot of v-train noise.

The only real way to be shore of pushrod length is to buy a length checker, forget about trying to do all the math with the base circle of the cam and new cam base circle then factering in shaved heads and non adjustable rocker arms its just a pain in the *** and wont be spot on.

If I did it again I would cnc the heads, valve job and dont mess with milling them it changes valve train geometry and is very in depth to try and get the proper setup since the rocker arms arent adjustable and we're working with hydraulic lifters.

just my .02

LS6 springs wont take the lift of the TR224/224 .563/.563. The 02 LS6 springs will only take .550. If you really want to try them, throw in the 224. Put your springs and rockers back on. Spin the motor over by hand and check for coil bind.

Just get some 918's man!!
