2003 is a GENIII with a 3 bolt cam and the cam sensor at the rear of the camshaft, while 2009 is a GENIV with a 1 bolt cam and cam sensor signal off of the cam gear. To do the swap, you will need a new cam gear, bolt, timing cover, and cam sensor. You will also need to extend the wires from your current cam sensor to the front of the engine on the timing cover where the new cam sensor mounts. By the time you are done buying those parts, you could have bought two cams that will swap directly in your truck without modification. (well, I exaggerated a little bit but you get the idea )

His cam sensor will work just fine because it gets its signal from the new cam gear and already mounts in the right spot. The only way to make it any simpler on his truck is to buy a VVT cam from TSP.

OK, he has an 09 and is getting an 03 cam...think I had it backwards...

So the 03 cam will be a 3 bolt cam, and his is a 1 bolt cam, so he will need a 3 bolt gear that has the provision for the front mounted cam sensor (LS2?)...so basically all he needs is the cam gear and bolts

If your truck is an 09 the sensor will already be in the cover, all you need is the gear with tab for cam sensor signal, and bolts for said gear...

In my original post I was referring to swapping an 09 cam into an 03, had it backwards sorry
