Default 2008 GMC Denali sierra Cam built motor

I am in the process of building the 6.2l L92 in my truck. I’m stuck on a cam. I DD this truck and its getting springs and pushrods. Vvt cams are still up in the air. Many have told me to delete it but I’m not entirely sure that’s the best route. With the many vvt cams available now. I went with -3.2cc wisecos and it’s honed .05 over. Also have morel lifters and am planning on running Steve Morris connecting rods good for 1200hp. Don’t plan getting much over 550 but it would be nice. I don’t want to sacrifice the low end torque as from what my previous duramax taught me. Anyone here have any experience with different cams? It’s the only thing keeping me from moving forward. Why is it so hard to decide on a cam?

I kept my VVT in my 6.2 DD, my tuner adj it for
a very nice street tune. I love it. it's a small Comp.
next cam swap i am going to call TSP for it. they
make a lot of VVT cams.

What kind of feedback can you give me? Did you get to drive the truck before the cam? Is keeping vvt a good route to go down? Do you have any numbers? I know you said you went with a small comp cam. I was looking into tsp and they have quite a bit to choose from. I may have to give them a call this week. Also pondered on having pat g make a spec sheet for me and having tsp make the cam. Their equipment is top of the line.

Motoking, published literature says that your L92 also had the AFM hardware but it was not activated by the tune. Did your engine have AFM lifters and such?

VVT is a cool way of flattening the power band of both torque and horsepower and its components are far more reliable than AFM/DOD. I would keep it and choose a camshaft on the smaller side if in your shoes.

The L92s stock cam is 198-209 .500-.500 115 and PN# 12612273.

VVT L99 | 214/228 .600/.600 114+4

This is the cam that was custom ground by Texas Speed for myself and a friend of mine with 6.2 trucks. His has been installed for a couple of months and he is still excited by driving his truck. He does close to 200 miles a day typically carrying several hundred pounds in supplies for his paint business. He's got a tune from Ed Wright in Tulsa, OK with K&N intake, Kooks catted long tubes, and Magnaflow exhaust. He towed 2 UTV's on a 16ft trailer to Colorado and back in the summer, and he said it felt awesome towing. This is on a 2013 Silverado with max trailer package and 4wd.

Mine is finally being installed this week and I've got Black Bear doing the tune with my AutoCal. I've got an Airaid MIT and AFE dry filter. I'll be ordering long tubes in the next couple of weeks. My truck is the same as yours, 2008 Sierra Denali with AWD.

Default Cam

my cam is a little smaller than most prefer,
VVT 210/224 .556/.568 114 LSA 105 C/L
this is a pretty small cam. I do a lot of long
distance driving with a trailer that holds 2 Harleys.
my conv is only a 2800 stall. this is a good combo
for my DD. I get 16-18 towing on the hwy with 3:73's
at 75 mph.

Though I did veer away from using a VVT camshaft, I also decided to stay with what most would consider a tiny cam for my daily driven work truck (Canyon). It is a Vinci 412 Torker / Square Port Camshaft Duration @ 0.050”: 212° intake / 224° exhaust, Valve Lift (in): 0.551” intake / 0.551” exhaust, LSA 115° / Advance 3°. And just like yours, a 2600 to 2800rpm stall with 3.73 gears. It makes for a fun daily driver that will kick in the traction control when it downshifts from 60mph in such a lightweight truck.
