2007 GMC 5.3L Power Adders
#1
Guys,
I'm new to the site and have a 2007 GMC with a 5.3L that I would like to squeeze some additional power out of. I did some searching and it looks like tuning is probably the best way to go, but are there any other bolt on mods that may help as well? What about headers and mufflers? Ant suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What kind of power gains are common with a good tune?
Thanks,
Chris

Start out with a tune. There are some good tuners on this board just take your pick. I am happy with my Wheatley tune. From there you need to figure you goals with the truck. For me I have decided to keep good fuel mileage, so that rules out a bad *** cammed-high stall converter N/A setup. The bolt ons help, but if you are shooting for a specific track time there is a much cheaper alternative like nitrous.

Not sure on the power gains, but it feels much quicker. I am goin to get some Gtech times this weekend sometime, I will post up the gains. Exhaust and a cold air intake will help a little, but on a stock engine its not going to be a big gain. I plan on holding out for an FLT trans, and either forced induction or an LS2. (or both) On my budget its gonna be a while.

Horsepower vs money you cant beat nitrous.. And the 5.3 will take a big shot. Spray 125 or 150 and you will be pleased.
