any truck that can almost hit the speed limiter in second gear has too high of a gear. i've driven both a 3.42 and a 4.10 geared version. it's deffinitly noticable and once you begin to mod it, the results will be even greater. your rpm at a 70 cruise in something that big and heavy with that few cubic inches doesn't need to be below 2000rpm.

Who wants to get together a parts list to swap over to the 05 front brakes? Master cylinder, proportioning valve, booster,..... I wonder if you can get the old rear discs to work with the new fronts. Which proportioning valve would work best?

Deep Skirt Aluminum Block with cast in place steel sleeves. This is basically a 6 bolt main where the block extends below the crankshaft center line allowing for more rigidity and two more main bearing cap bolts to enter from the sides. The old hemi's and American motors used deep skirt blocks.

you might ask one of the GM mechanics or workers on the site about the exact motor differences i remember stupidfast told me what they were but do not remember exactly what the difference was other than the 10 hp
