oh btw whats the average MPG for these trucks, cause its cost me $50 bucks to fill my tank half way!!! And it seems the gas gauge drops pretty damn fast.

Thanks,
In town 8-10mpg, towing 9-10mpg hwy 12-13mpg. The best I been able to get was 13.5mpg running around 80mph. I have seen guys claim with mods and a good tune 14+mpg. Even with all the mods mine gets 12mpg hwy but 6mpg in town.

I have heard stories about the piston issues with the 8.1L but they are the same type hyper-crap cast aluminum pistons that all the others have. They are a little bigger for sure, but they are the same otherwise so i am not sure why they get a bad rep. There must be something else about them if they really are that prone to issues. I really am happy with the power increase that the whipple gave my big block, even at the relatively low boost i run. I plan on keeping the boost low enough to be safe. I figure i am right around 400rwhp and 500rwtq at my current boost......and it feels nice.
Oh, and i have no clue what MPG i get, i have never tried to calculate it since i put the blower on. I was getting around 9-10 in the city and 11-12 on the hwy before the blower with 4.10 gears.

its not so much the pistons as it is the contecting rods...A guy I work with who is a mechanic says he a rebuild so many 8.1L because the number one cylinder break the rod right in half!!!!

I found that the top ring land was too thin. It was done to keep emissions clean. I dynoed 501whp, 640wtq on stock pistons hitting it with a 200hp shot and ran it that way for 2 years. Nitrous is harder on an engine than a blower hands down. Even Raylar pistons had the same problem with the top ring. (I don't think they intended to have some goon hitting it with a healthy shot of go gas) This is why I have J&E pistons now.
