Default 2001 5.3 liter heads

I have a 2001 chevy silverado with a 5.3 liter engine. I wanted to know if LS1 heads off a corvette would be the best heads for my truck. Does anyone have any comments.

Ls1 heads off of a corvette(or f-bod) will lower the 9.5:1 compression close to 9:1. That means less power. Unless you mill the heads and do a good stage 2, then don't worry about them. If you are talking about the Z06 heads, they will lower your compression a little (they have 1-2 cc bigger chambers). Mill them a tad and they should be better than the 5.3 heads, but they cost $1100. Might as well stage 2 your 5.3 heads.

By the way, welcome to the board.

It also depends on the flow rate. Find out which ones flow what. Replacing heads can hurt you as well. In gaining top end power you might loose bottum end power. For instance, keeping the exhuast ports smaller and not , as they say, hogging them out, will help your lower end. cam size , duration, lift has a impact on what size heads or which size port to go with. there are alot of factors involved. It all depends on what you are wanting and where you want your power to kick in at.

the guys at LPE said that LS1 heads would raise my compression to 11.0:1. Can anyone comment on that info.

I was looking at getting my '02 5.3 heads milled .30 to get a little over 10:1 and getting a 3 angle valve job done while I'm in there. Seems like it would be the most gain for the least money without the worry of porting and losing all the bottom end power. Then going with a little more cam. Have you thought about trying that? Anyone else have any advise on this?

but yeah, the ls1 heads dont even flow as good as the 5.3L truck heads do they? i know craig at gtp can do some insane work with the truck heads... for a price
