Default 2.5 tailpipes or 3'' with Longtubes and o/r Y???

Guys I'm getting a good deal on some longtubes and a Y pipe this weekend from a good friend of mine. My question is, since the Y is 3'' should I go ahead and get my tailpipes 3" for a full 3" exhaust? The tailpipes aren't long at all as I have a 14" si/do magnaflow with the pipes coming out right in front of the rear tire. I dont want it extremely loud mainly just a really good solid tone, Im putting in an electronic cutout as well for when I want to wake up the neighborhood Any input is appreciated, thanks guys. Also, if it help mods in sig.

Yes, go 3" all the way while you are at it. Once you start putting in bigger mods (if you ever do) you will need to let her breathe.

2.5" tailpipes are no problem. I put down way more with my LS1 GTO and run 2.5" tailpipes.

2.5 is more than enough.

if you are talking about going from a 3" Y to 2.5" duals, that makes no sense. run dual 2.5 straight from the collectors without a Y but with either an X or H. Or run single 3" which is more than enough

even a 6.0 doesnt need dual 3". maybe 400rwhp+ then you might see gains from dual 3". anything less than that, you just lose exhaust velocity so no gains
