Yes but that is an OBS truck. If I remember correctly a 1997 with a 350. The picture Tom posted earlier looks like it draws air from the bottom of the tray that the original air filter box is attached to. If so it is getting under hood air.

tbyrne,
If someone gets one and it doesnt show the gains it claims will you take it back??
What would you consider "acceptable comparisons" for a return,
track times? gtech? dyno? or just our word?
and does the stock intake have to be ran before or after the vararam

There's gotta be a way they do it...from their description they are making it seem as if it isn't sucking underhood air....from their website:

This has been accomplished by producing a true sealed Cold air system that uses a multiple venturi design to maximize overall airflow efficiency, no leaky boxiest that suck under hood hot air, no chopping ,cutting or custom computer tuning!

Wish someone would take some installed pics...

If you look at the intake on the VaraRam it is at a right angle to the air box which is in-line with the intake tube to the TB. So if the RamAir is not attached to it then it must suck hot under hood air. No matter which way it is oriented it has to get under hood air at least until the truck is up to a speed that fresh air is forced into the engine bay from in front of the truck.

Here are some pics of the system installed on my truck -

The system is pulling cool air from under the truck. It would be flipped over if you connect the ram air tube -

The performance guarantee is based against the stock induction. The stock air tube that goes to the throttlebody will also need to be used. G-Tech or other performance testing equipment can be used. If there is an issue the inducton would have to be shipped to VaraRam and then go from there.

I should see the ram air portion of this kit for testing on Saturday. If everything goes alright we should have a large shipment on the way here next week.

Why do you need to use the stock air intake tube? It looks like my Airaid tube will fit.

so would time slips be considered "other performance testing equipment"?
how many tenths would you guarantee in the 1/8th?
if this product doesnt perform as guaranteed, lets say we see no gains
what will vararam do?
We need more than ship it back and go from there
not trying to be difficult here
but those are pretty big claims
hell Id be impressed and satisfied to see 3 tenths

Vararam has made some pretty outrageous claims.

First they said they would improve the 0-60 times of certain vehicles, such as the following (this has been copied from this post of TByrne's):

That’s a 1.4 second improvement!
2-3MPG improvement
I did a quick calculation on what it would take to improve 1.4 seconds in the quarter mile in an EC 5.3L truck, and it turned out that there would need to be a 90+ HP gain in order to cut 1.4 seconds from the 1320.

Go to this site to do the calculation, using 4617 as the curb weight (taken from GM's web site) and 285 as flywheel HP, to arrive at 15.535 sec.

Then plug in 378 for flywheel HP, to arrive at 14.139 sec. The difference is right around 1.396 seconds, with 93 HP required to make that difference.

Now to gain 1.4 seconds from 0-60, wouldn't it take more than 93 HP, since the same car that would be ahead at 60 mph, would be further ahead at the quarter mile point?
