Talking 1st Post in this section! Help A brother out!!

Hey Guys as you can see it is not my first post, But it is in this section. Im usualy in Eastern, or Forced induction.
But I recently got a 2002 Avilanch for a winter/work/tow rig truck.
It is a 1500 5.3.
I put exhaust on it already, and a few aperiance things which must be worth a good 50 hp and some 20" Bling bling which is another 50 hp.
No, all kidding aside. Im looking for a little more power for towing my rig. I am going to do a cam, valve springs, push rods, and ls1 edit. This in an ls1 5.7 would be worth around 40-60rwhp. so im figuring close in the 5.3.
My question is this. Will parts from the 5.7 work in the 5.3?
I have a cam that made a ton of tq and ran well in an auto F-Body, (228/218 591/591 112 lsa) I wanted to know if it will fit in the 5.3?
Also which springs to use? 918's? duels? Info on this as well.
Or if i can build it just like an ls1 with the same parts, I know exactly what I have to do to make power.
Thanks alot guys and girls.

That cam is way to big for a 5.3. If you want more towing power, you should consider something like a 206/212 cam with less than .550lift and 113 or 114LSA.
Call Allen Futral @ FutralMotorsports, a sponser---->
He can get a custom made cam for your truck. He knows his shi*t!

Everything from the LS1 will swap.

Mid- or Long-tube headers will really help out also.

the cam will fit, but most people use a smaller cam size... so im not sure how it will act.

But what I do know is that a few boltons could help you out... such as longtubes, upd intake, some gears (3.90/4.10s)/eaton posi. Programming woud help especially if you're gunna run a cam. 918s will work as well. you could also run electric fans, under drive pullies, maybe a ported throttle body..

maybe even a stall.. it all depends

... blownchevy would recommend a radix supercharger , but it depends on how much you want to spend.

But yes, most all ls1 parts are interchangable with the genIII truck motors, 4.8/5.3/6.0

Thanks for the help. where can I find a cold air kit and long tubes for an Avy?
Why is that cam to big? It makes ALOT of Power on the ls1, and the 5.3 isnt much smaller.
Is it proven to be too big or just no one has tried it yet?
What are stock cam specs?
Also, I was going to home port my t-body, It worked well on my car. and I was doing the dyno tune for sure. But cam and springs where the question. i guess i'll wait to find out from you guys if it is deffinetly proven to big or just a guess.
I know for a long time people where afraid to run 112 and 110 lsa's in our cars, they said it was to narrow, but once it was tried, it wasnt so bad.
Thanks alot for your info, it will all help and all play a roll in what i do.

I think the weight of the trucks has a lot to do with what cam works best. That cam is a beast up top but will loose the low end torque you need to get the truck moving.
I think the stock cam is .466 .457 190 191 114lsa

TByrne has all the truck goodies ---------->

I'm giving my opinion on the cam. I know I've read somewhere where anything more than ~224/224 is too much for a truck that weighs +5000lbs. You would need a huge stall also. Someone around here was breaking valve springs constantly with a high lift cam like that...

Good luck on your decision!

I got it. So that cam is for a race app, not a TQ ap!
What is a good tq cam? Looking for pull power!
I tow a 10,000 lbs enclosed with it!

I think I have invented my new cam.
From what people are saying, with a tune, I think i could go with about a 206/208 510/510 113lsa. how does this sound with out going into the converter?
I think this and tuining, and a cold air kit would get me about 30-40rwhp/tq then a while latter a nice set of headers for another 10 hp
How will this cam sound. Im used to huge cams in race cars all lumppy and nasty, can you here a cam like this?

i would just call comp cams and see what they recommend. i would think something like 212/212 would be nice, not losing much low end if any at all plus gain a lot of mid. also on the verter, don't go over 3000 or you will start to lose factory towing specs!!!!!!! just the cam alone you should gain anywhere from 20 to 30 ponies.
