Default 1998 GMC 1500 5.7 after header install issues?

A friend just stopped by my work with his truck. He put Edelbrock shortys on it. From an idle, it nearly dies when you hit the gas. It is throwing a MAF low and a crank sensor code. Any ideas?

Try cleaning the MAF sensor and see what happens.

I scanned the maf and it was reporting anything. So I unplugged it and the truck ran the same. So I replaced the maf and it fixed everytihing. Somehow they broke it when they moved it out of the way to install the headers.
