Default 1996 5.7 Tahoe vs. 2003 5.3 Yukon

Friends, I have been given an 'opportunity' by a buddy in a 1996 Tahoe to line up. Here's how the two vehicles are setup:

1996 2 door Tahoe 4wd, 5.7, not sure on rear gear, 265 BFG's, changing to 285's soon, K&N FIPK, HPP3

2003 4 door Yukon 2wd, 5.3, 3.73's, UPD intake, !maf screen, HPP3, stock tires

What should this look like both in terms of expected rwhp/rwtq and 1/4 numbers and maybe a 'from a roll' encounter?

I'm thinking I should have this pretty well covered, but should I wait a month until I install my cutout?

It's gonna be ugly in the 1/4.

He's gonna lose really bad, he's 400 lbs heavier than you with his 4WD.

Now I have the OBS 1999 Tahoe, 2wd, 3.73's, eaton posi, upd airbox, hpp shift points, colder t-stat, !maf screen, and I would beat you I think. I think my truck is a lot lighter than yours. I was 5000 lbs with me in it.

dont think the cuttout is going to give you that much, except for a loud exhaust.
you should be able to take him.
let me know how this goes.
I just bought the wife a 1999 Yukon with the 5.7L in it. it has a nice get up and go to it.
3.73's and a lockup rear end. oh and i threw in a K&n air filter
but i havnt got to take off against a nbs tahoe
I have run against a nbs ford 99 - 02 and did fairly well.

I think that your 2wd 5.3 Tahoe is maybe a 15.8 truck stock.

I went 16.3 with no spare and 3.08 gears with my truck stock, but the trans was slipping and the 1/4mph was really low.

I'd say right now I am low 15's and when I put the converter in I should run 14's.

I raced a Harley truck from a roll last summer and were even so that's a mid 15 second truck and I had stock shift points...

Cool, ugly was the word I was hoping to get.

I'm planning on dropping the spare and 3rd row seats, how hard are the 2nd row captains chairs to get out? Futral's truck weighs about 5,000# and I think mine is extremely similar to theirs in options, so you would have me by about 200# (with both of us in our trucks, I'm ~175) with no weight reduction.

I hope to weigh it soon for sure though at the local farmers market.

Those 3rd row seats are HEAVY though, you think I could drop 100++ with those and the spare and running 1/4 tank of gas?

Have you GTech'd, Dyno'd, or run at the track at all in your truck?

edit... just saw your other post

Mine went 15.4 after the UPD and HPP3 on a GTech at 96.6 (I know the GTechs are always really high mph wise) but I haven't had it at the track yet.

Big Yukon boats racing, I love it! Have you ever raced your Blazer? I have a 1999 Blazer 4x4 Ive done a few things to and its still slow in the 4000-5500rpm range. My money is on you, even though he has more torque. You have the higher rev power, and thats what counts more in the 1/4.

Yep, shows how much I miss my 10 second 98 Z28! I havne't raced the Blazer yet, it's got a big stereo, box, etc. in it.

I also got challenged by a 2002 Sonoma to race my dad's 2003 S10 base work truck, both 3.42's, both 4.3's, both autos.

My nickname is Sneaky, and I had to live up to it. In about 2 days of preparation I cut the airbox, did a homemade cold air induction, dropped in a K&N, snatched out my MAF screen, ran it down to 1/8 tank of gas, put in a gallon of 104 octane, took off the tailgate, took out the spare tire, ran with 22psi in the rear tires, the race was HORRIBLY ugly, I had him by maybe 5-10 car lengths at 98mph?

He's doing some thing to his Sonoma and I've granted him a round 2. BUT, when he comes back, I'll have taken the HPP3 off my 2003 Yukon to install it on the S10. With the 93 octane tuning, improved shift points and firmness it should be just as ugly if not nastier!

15.4 +/-.2 is very believable, Whitt1 I think posted running 15.9 bonestock.

Always need to add like 400 lbs for 4x4 trucks.

Spare weighs a lot, I don't have 3rd row seating.

I think i can get to 14.8/14.9 with the 2800 yank and then I'm done.

I think a 4x4 5.7 Tahoe would run mid 16's.
